The 2015 Society of Actuaries Annual Meeting was attended by 2,200 attendees making it the second best attended Society of Actuaries meeting ever, second only to the Society of Actuaries 50th Anniversary meeting in 1999.
Kevin Pledge, CEO of Claim Analytics, was the Program Committee Chair; he also presented a fun TED style talk on lessons we can learn from other industries.
Steve Fretwell, Chairman of Acceptiv's Advisory Board, sat on an expert panel in a 'Shark Tank' style presentation, sharing his expertise of the insurance market and start ups.
Chris Samuel also traveled over from the UK to present on engaging the customer and a case study covering Beagle Street and Teachers Life.
Barry Senensky, President of Claim Analytics, also presented on how predictive analytics can be used in underwriting. This session was well attended and received a lot of positive feedback.
Many sessions discussed the issues companies face reaching the middle market, online marketing and accelerated underwriting. Clearly hot topics, but companies need to look at bringing this altogether to move forward. There was even some scepticism regarding the value of reaching out to customers online, despite every study showing that most, if not all, customers do their insurance research online - after all they would be crazy not to!
We came away from the meeting with some great ideas and looking forward to next years meeting.
